Arizona State University is an extremely large public research university with several locations throughout Arizona, including Tempe and Downtown Phoenix. Undergraduate Programs

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University offers a B.S. in Actuarial Science. A certificate in actuarial science is also available. Arizona State University does not offer graduate or doctoral degrees in actuarial science.

Undergraduate Major in Actuarial Science

This degree program provides students with skills needed to succeed in a career as an actuary. The program combines traditional statistics and mathematics courses with a solid foundation in economics, business, and finance which prepares students for professional actuarial credentialing exams. Required critical courses include the following: computer applications and information technology; macroeconomic principles; microeconomic principles; calculus with analytic geometry I, II, and III; introduction to elements and techniques of actuarial science; mathematics of finance; and applied linear algebra. A 3.5 GPA or higher must be maintained in all critical courses.

Necessary courses include the following: probability for risk management; mathematical structures; introductory applied statistics; mathematics of financial derivatives; advanced calculus I; mathematical statistics; life contingencies I; actuarial models and modeling I; actuarial exam preparation seminar; life contingencies II; and actuarial models and modeling II. A 3.0 GPA or higher must be maintained in all necessary courses. A minimum of 120 credit hours are required for this degree program.

Certificate in Actuarial Science

The certificate in actuarial science requires a minimum of 15 credit hours chosen from the following courses: mathematics of finance, probability for risk management, mathematics of financial derivatives, life contingencies I, life contingencies II, actuarial models and modeling I, and actuarial models and modeling II.

The Faculty

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University has over 60 professors. These faculty members are dedicated to providing a quality education as well as being a powerhouse of research in the statistical and mathematical sciences.

Admissions

Prospective students of Arizona State University should submit an online application along with a $50 non-refundable application fee for Arizona residents and a $65 application fee for non-residents. In addition, official transcripts and standardized test scores should be submitted. To be accepted to Arizona State University, a prospective student must meet one of the following minimum requirements:
• Top 25% of graduating class
• 3.0 or higher GPA
• An ACT of 22 and above for Arizona residents, 24 and above for non-residents
• A SAT of 1040 and above for Arizona residents, 1110 and above for non-residents
